Award-winning Kilkenny business closes due to 'challenging' business margins

An innovative and hugely popular Kilkenny business is closing this Saturday due to 'challenging' business margins.

The Cutting Vedge on Ormonde Street is a vegan cafe and deli and also has a zero waste food shop and is the only solely vegan food outlet in Kilkenny City who has won several awards.

Helen told the Kilkenny People that it is 'with great sadness that we say goodbye to our wonderful cafe and community'.

"Business margins have become very challenging and as a result, after an intensive review we have decided to close and take time out. It's a very sad time but it's also the first day of spring so let's stay hopeful about what culinary adventures might follow in the future. I would like to thank all our customers for their loyal support over the past six and a half years," she added.

Helen and Peter Costello and the team at The Cutting Vedge are passionate about providing freshly made healthy food options. 95% of their food is home-made from scratch in The Cutting Vedge or their base kitchen at the Costelloe's home.

This is the third business to announce its closure in recent weeks. Local newsagents Porter is set to close this Wednesday after 35 years in business and Lowry's Hardware in Irishtown have also announced the closure of their iconic shop after decades in business.
