On Easter Monday, the Young Irelands Healthy Clubs Committee will welcome the public to their club grounds at Castle Ellis in Gowran to celebrate GAA 'Lá na gClub' and the launch of All-Stars, their new inclusive group.
The All-Stars initiative is the first of its kind in Kilkenny and aims to cater for young people aged from five to sixteen years living with additional needs.
"The GAA has a slogan, 'Where we all belong' and we want that to be true for our community. Every child deserves the chance to be active," Healthy Clubs Officer, Melissa Kelly said.
Fun, friendship and participation is at the core of the group with those who can not yet take part in a typical team game an integral part of the initiative. Activities will assist with ball skills, exercise and enjoyment in a safe environment.
In order to be as inclusive as possible, the participants will register with Young Irelands GAA Club and enjoy the benefits of membership like anyone else. They will meet at the same time as other juvenile teams and for the same duration i.e. Mondays at 6.30pm, each week of the season and participants are welcome from Gowran and beyond.
Young Irelands Healthy Club Officers include ;Cora Carter, Joe Loughrey and Melissa Kelly.
