The Abbey Meadow in Callan is one project included
Four popular walking and cycling routes around Kilkenny are to be upgraded - and five new trails will be developed - under funding just announced by the Department of Rural and Community Development.
Under the Outdoor Recreation and Infrastructure Scheme it has been revealed today (Thursday) that €192,000 is to be shared between the local projects.
The Abbey Meadow trail enhancement scheme, to improve the walking path in the Abbey Meadow in Callan, has been granted €29,700.
In Kells the Kings River Trail Phase II will benefit from enhancement works and has been granted €29,700.
The Islands Walk in Urlingford is also to be enhanced and has been granted €29,700.
These projects will be lead by Kilkenny County Council.
The County Council is also leading projects to develop three community loop walks, in Graignamanagh, Kilmacow and Paulstown. €29,700 is allocated to this.
Glencoum Wood walking trail development scheme, to develop two separate walking trails, has been granted €29,700.
Kilkenny Leader Partnership have also benefitted from the grants for two projects. The maximum grant of €30,000 has been awarded for the upgrade and repair of signage along the Trail Kilkenny Cycling Routes.
For the marketing of the Trails Kilkenny project, including updating its website and marketing materials, Kilkenny Leader has been awarded €13,500.
