Local Fianna Fáil councillor, Pat Fitzpatrick has warmly welcomed the announcement of €5.4million in funding allocated to Kilkenny clubs and organisations under the latest round of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme.

The programme supports community-based clubs, schools, and organisations enhance and modernise their facilities, promoting greater participation in physical activities for people of all ages and abilities.

A total of €250 million has been announced by Green Party Minister for Sport Catherine Martin, representing the largest-ever investment in sports facilities across the country and a 50% increase on the funding allocated in early 2022 under the 2020 round of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme. - READ MORE HERE 

"The funding will support the development of local sports facilities and infrastructure, benefiting both grassroots and established sporting bodies throughout the county," Cllr Fitzpatrick told Kilkenny Live.

"This funding is a major boost for our local sports clubs and organisations. These grants will enable the upgrading of facilities, the purchase of new equipment, and the improvement of playing surfaces, making sports more accessible and enjoyable for all members of our community," he added.

"By supporting our clubs, we are investing in the future of our community. These grants will empower more people to stay active and engaged, while also helping young people develop vital skills and confidence through sport," the North Kilkenny councillor continued.

Cllr Fitzpatrick concluded by encouraging all sports clubs and organisations to continue applying for funding to ensure Kilkenny remains a hub of sporting activity for years to come.
