A fundraiser has been set up after a 'devestating' fire destroyed two Kilkenny family businesses.

Sharing information to a GoFundMe page, organiser Tom Murphy said: "On Friday night, the 4 of October, a devestating fire occurred on the premises of the Prendergast farm, destroying two family businesses.

"Dermot Prendergast is a local contractor who has built up and provided an incredible service to local and neighbouring farm businesses for over 30 years.

"John Prendergast, Dermot’s son, recently set up his own mechanic business adjacent to his father’s on their family farm, while also being involved in the contracting enterprise with Dermot.

"The fire that occurred resulted in the loss and damage of machinery, tools, and sheds for both businesses.

"Dermot and John are great community men, and to help get these businesses back up and running, this is a way for those who have reached out to donate as they recover from this event.

"Please show your support and help this family get back on their feet and their businesses back up and running.

"The funds raised will go directly to the Prendergast family."
There is a goal of €40,000 and currently have raised €28,000, however raised over €20,000 over one weekend.
