Kilkenny to reap the benefits of government funding

Has your club or organisation benefitted?

Kilkenny groups and organisations have received a much needed financial boost over the past two weeks, with local funding exceeding €185,000.

Groups in Windgap, Kilmanagh and Ballyouskill will benefit from CLÁR funding with confirmation of the local allocation announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys.

Naomh Aodhan Community Centre in Kilmanagh was granted €44,312 for the rebuilding and refurbishment of their handball alleys along with ground works.

Ballyouskill Development Association received €36,641 for the upgrade of facilities of the Community Hall including the resurfacing of the carpark.

Meanwhile, Windgap was celebrating on the double as both the parish’s handball and GAA facilities are set to benefit from government funding.

Windgap GAA Club were given funding of €38,307 to upgrade their parking facilities, while the local handball alley received €29,419 for the external insulation of two outside walls.

North Kilkenny Fianna Fáil councillor, Pat Fitzpatrick welcomed the Clár funding, describing it as ‘important for communities.’
Callan councillor Joe Lyons said the funding is for the betterment of the community.

Nationally, over €11.4 million will go towards delivering 264 projects under the programme.

Elsewhere, funding of €14,500 has been allocated to six walking trails in Kilkenny in a major boost for communities across the county.

The local funds will be shared between; Gathabawn Rural Development Group (€4000), Mountain Grove Residents Association (€1,500), Thomastown Community Network (€2,500), Freshford Tidy Towns (€2,500), Tullahought Community Development (€1,500) and Windgap Community Development (€2,500).

“In Kilkenny, we are fortunate to have such committed community organisations, and I am delighted that this funding will support them,” local Fine Gael TD, John Paul Phelan remarked.

Meanwhile, funding of €25,000 has been allocated to Thomastown United AFC as part of ‘Healthy Ireland.’

“I want to congratulate the club and I look forward to seeing this project come to fruition,” Fianna Fáil’s John McGuinness remarked.
