Increasing participation for Traveller and Roma families through literacy in Kilkenny

The event was held at the Woodford Dolmen hotel recently

Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board (KCETB) and Adult Literacy for Life (ALL) hosted a very successful event at the Woodford Dolmen Hotel recently.

The event was officially opened by Martha Bolger, Director of Further Education and Training and chaired by Bernadette O Rourke, Adult Education Officer, KCETB.

Sixty attendees, representing local schools, HSE, Probation Services, a range of KCETB staff, Family Resource Centres, Amber, CKLP and Ossory Youth were part of the networking event. Presentations and workshops were hosted by Nickie Egan from Tusla, Stephanie McDermott, Kilkenny Traveller Community Movement and Anastasia Crickley and Martin Collins, Pavee Point.

St Catherine’s Community Services Centre (Manager, staff and Traveller representatives) Kilkenny Traveller Community Movement (KTCM), Tusla Education Welfare Officers and Adult Literacy for Life (ALL) also delivered short presentations.

The event is the first step in a plan to look at breaking down barriers and increasing participation for Traveller and Roma families in Kilkenny and Carlow.
