People in Kilkenny urged to 'shelter in place' until red alert lifts

STORM EOWYN: Strongest ever wind gust recorded in Ireland as Storm Éowyn wreaks havoc

The public is urged to heed all public safety advice, to not travel and shelter in place during the duration of the Storm Éowyn Status Red weather warning which remains in place in Kilkenny until 10am this morning.

Members of the public can contact Kilkenny County Council’s Severe Weather Helpline on 056 7794145 from 8am to 5pm today, after which calls will be transferred to the Council’s Out of Hours Number 0818 399 399.  Alternatively, you can email ecc@kilkennycoco.ie .

Kilkenny County Council are receiving reports of fallen trees and branches and power outages in some areas of the County.  Council crews will not be in a position to respond to callouts until the end of the Status Red Wind warning.  

  • The public is urged not to travel, stay indoors and shelter in place during the Status Red warning.
  • During Status Orange warnings, the public is advised to limit travel to essential only, in areas where an orange level warning is in place.
  • Essential services operators will continue to operate services subject to advice from Met Éireann on prevailing local conditions.
