The brave Sophie Quirke
Local people have made financial donations in their droves to the family of Sophie Quirke, who is currently facing a tough battle against B Cell, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
The brave seven year old girl's story first resonated with Kilkenny households along with a national audience in 2023, when she made a memorable appearance on the Late Late Toy Show.
After enduring over two years of rigorous treatment, her family was dealt a heartbreaking blow when cancer cells were found during a routine procedure. Now, Sophie needs a Bone Marrow Transplant, which can only be performed overseas, with the situation putting immense emotional and financial pressure on her family.

A GoFund Me Page has subsequently been erected with people from Kilkenny and further afield reaching out to the family to offer their support, with a staggering €65,685 raised so far.
Amongst the donations, an anonymous contribution of €5,000.
Martina, Sophie's mother, who is a teacher in Colaiste Ambhainn Rí in Callan, has been on carer’s leave and is unable to return to work. The financial strain of travel, lost income, and medical expenses is overwhelming.
"We can help ease some of this burden by contributing to their GoFundMe," the founder of the page said.
"Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference in supporting Sophie and her family during this challenging time," they added.
"Updates on upcoming fundraisers will be shared soon, so please stay tuned."
