Iconic Kilkenny building could be about to reopen after closure last year

An update has been provided regarding Billy's Tearooms in Ballyhale

Iconic Kilkenny building to be made available again after closure last year

Kilkenny County Council is seeking an Expression of Interest for premises known locally as ‘Billy’s Tea Rooms’ at Main Street Ballyhale, for use by a community group(s) or voluntary organisations/interested third parties focused on running and managing a community café/shop or social enterprise.

The local tearooms closed until further notice last March to great disappointment as it served as an invaluable meeting place, a source of employment and a source of work experience for local people as well as a tourist site for visitors.

In an online statement, the committee behind the tearooms said at the time: "We regret to inform customers of Billy's Tearooms, that due to unforeseen circumstances, we will have to close in the short term.

However, a path to reopening is now in sight, with the local authority seeking to hear from interested parties.

Submissions will be accepted by email only and should include all supporting documentation.

For more information on how to apply and submit an 'Expression of Interest' please contact Catherine Byrne Murphy at Catherine.byrnemurphy@kilkennycoco.ie or telephone 056-7764115.

Closing date for submissions of Expression of Interest is Friday, April 25.
