Speeding motorist in Kilkenny on 'lethal' mix of drugs was 'late for his flight'

Members of the Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit have intercepted a speeding driver who tested positive under three different drug substance categories.

Posting about the incident on social media, gardaí stated that the driver was travelling under a 'lethal combination of speed and drugs'.

"This morning, Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit were conducting a speed checkpoint when they detected a vehicle driving at 152km/h on the M9 motorway outside Kilkenny," they stated.

"A drug test was conducted and the driver tested positive for cannabis, benz’s [sic] and cocaine. The driver was arrested and proceedings have commenced.

"His excuse was he 'was late for his flight at the airport'."

In a pithy final comment, gardaí remarked: "Unfortunately for the motorist, cabin service is not business class in our custody suite but at least we don't penalise for extra baggage."
