A Kilkenny photographer has won a top award at the World Food Photography Awards - emerging from nearly 10,000 entries!

Kilkenny photographer, Ruth Calder-Potts, snapped up 3rd place in the World of Drinks category at the World Food Photography Awards in London last night (Tuesday). Ruth had her image selected, for her stylish capture of an elegant cocktail, as a finalist, from nearly 10,000 entries submitted from 70 countries around the world.

The winners of the competition’s 25 categories were revealed by renowned chef, restaurateur and food writer Yotam Ottolenghi at the Mall Galleries, London, at an awards evening gathering stars of the food and arts worlds.

Speaking about her success, Ruth Calder-Potts said: “This was my first time entering the World Photography Awards, so to have my work recognised on a global stage was a real ‘pinch me’ moment. It was an incredible honour to be a finalist and to be in a room full of such talented photographers and inspiring work.”

Titled 'Just the One,' Ruth says of her photograph: "There’s something captivating about one perfectly crafted cocktail - the way the colours swirl, the delicate garnish, and the glass that catches the light just right. It’s a moment of artistry, a beautiful balance of form and function, elevating any occasion into something truly memorable with elegance and style."
A heartwarming image, The Elderly Having Delicious Food, by Chinese photographer Xiaoling Li, is the Overall Winner of the World Food Photography Awards sponsored by Tenderstem®.
“These awards showcase the power of photography in telling incredible food stories from around the world,” says Dave Samuels, Brand Director, Tenderstem® and headline sponsor of the Awards. “No matter how the world changes, food remains at the heart of our lives. These extraordinary images serve as a reminder of the fundamental role food plays across communities; bringing people together through growing, cooking, eating, celebrating and surviving.”

This year’s global judging panel, chaired by legendary food photographer, David Loftus, includes: Claire Reichenbach, CEO, The James Beard Foundation, Tom Athron, CEO, Fortnum & Mason, Max La Manna, Award Winning Digital Creator, Rein Skullerud, Senior Photographer & Photo Editor, United Nations World Food Programme and Mogau Seshoene, The Lazy Makoti, Chef and Cookbook Author.

A free-to-enter exhibition of all 185 Finalist images premieres at The Mall Galleries, London, running from May 21 to 25. A selection of images will also be exhibited at Fortnum and Mason from June 2, as well as the Museum of the Home from June 3 to  September 7.
