Huge pressure on government as Kilkenny community left outraged

Chairperson of Piltown Municipal District, Cllr Pat Dunphy has welcomed recent commentary around roads funding for the N24 and N25 as part of the review of the National Development Plan.

Cllr Dunphy is seeking commitment for funding to advance both roads, which run through South Kilkenny.

He also welcomed ‘the statement that Michael Murphy TD (Chairperson of the Transport Committee) received from The Tánaiste at the Clonmel Show, where Simon Harris is hopeful for progress on the N24 Waterford to Cahir Scheme’.

His comments come following a recent meeting involving Deputy Catherine Callaghan and Cllrs Pat Dunphy, Fidelis Doherty and David Fitzgerald with the Tánaiste in Government Buildings where safety on the N25 and N24 roads were brought to his attention.

Despite community pressure and evidence for the economic and safety benefits of upgrades, both the N24 and N25 were recently overlooked for roads funding - a decision that angered people across the entire South-East region.
