Fianna Fáil TD for Carlow/Kilkenny, Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere, has welcomed €55,000 in funding for Woodstock Gardens in Kilkenny.
The funding was announced today by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary in partnership with Coillte.
A total of €4 million was allocated, with €2.6 million of the funding going towards new infrastructure and ongoing maintenance at 169 sites nationwide, whilst €1.4 million is off set to repair the damage caused to up to 200 recreational sites after recent storms.
The €55,000 allocation of funding to Woodstock Gardens in Inistioge in County Kilkenny will help repair and redress the access road into the Gardens.
“I am delighted to hear from my party colleague Minster Dara Calleary that in partnership with Coillte, they have approved funding for the repair and redress of the access road for Woodstock Gardens," Deputy Cleere said.
Woodstock Gardens is a beautiful place based in Inistioge in Kilkenny and has a lot of people visit throughout the year. It is essential we preserve and protect this fantastic amenity, and I am delighted this funding has been given towards the project,” he said.
“It is essential that we maintain Coillte sites around the country and have them to a high-quality standard for the millions of people that visit them each year.
He added: “Woodstock is no different, and I am looking forward to working alongside the Minister to ensure more funding like this happens going into the future, as part of a planned investment of €15m over 5 years to maintain and develop Coillte’s trail network and recreation amenities around the country.
“I recognise it has been a challenging year for staff at Coillte in the aftermath of damage done from Storm Éowyn, but I’d like to highlight the trojan work the staff have done to open 83 of the 100 sites that have been affecting in the aftermath. I am pleased that the other remaining sites will be open by the end of the year.
Concluding he said: “Finally I’d like to thank Minister Calleary for the delivery of this funding today, and to thank Coillte for their work on an excellent trail network throughout the country that is a vital tool in boosting our local economies.”
