Kilkenny radio station celebrated award success at national ceremony

Community Radio Kilkenny City (CRKC) struck gold at this year's CRAOL Annual Achievement Awards which was held recently at the Charleville Park Hotel.

The event brought together community radio stations from across Ireland to share ideas, celebrate creativity, and recognise excellence in broadcasting.

Locally, CRKC's work truly shone at the Féile, standing proudly among the finest examples of community radio in Ireland.

The highlight of Féile 2025 came during Tuesday evening's CRAOL Achievement Awards Ceremony, hosted by Michael Collins and streamed live nationwide. These awards recognise excellence in programming and production across Ireland's community radio network, which focus on creativity, volunteer participation, and social impact.

CRKC was twice honoured with Gold recognition, celebrating the outstanding contributions of its dedicated volunteer presenters, members of the Involvement Centre Kilkenny and Lake Productions.

The first of these came under Access and Inclusion category, was for the Writers in Profile series. The richly produced programme celebrates four of Ireland’s most respected writers- Patrick Kavanagh, Seamus Heaney, WB Yeats and John B Keane. The four documentaries shone a light on these writers and tried determine what their artistic legacy was, and how would they be remembered.

The Judges praised the series for its "exceptional storytelling, high production values, and deep sense of community connection," describing it as "a standout example of how community radio can nurture and showcase local creativity at a national standard."

The series was further recognised with a special award for Ger Cody of Lake Productions for his outstanding work in bringing the project to fruition.

CRKC's second gold of the evening came under the Coimisiún na Meán, commissioned programme category for the 'Around Your Way' series which earned warm recognition for its engaging coverage of local communities across Kilkenny.

The programme shun a light on community initiatives, local heritage, and the people who make Kilkenny thrive.

The award was collected by Mags Lynch and her son Sam on behalf of the large team of volunteer presenters that worked tirelessly on the series.
