Fran's Kickathon a team game as Kilkenny public lend support ahead of final night

Fran Grincell’s Kickathon concludes on Friday, December 5

Fran Grincell's annual Kickathon has reached its final night as the local auctioneer raises funds for local charity Cois Nore.

Over 12 nights, 'Franaldo' has kicked a ball against a wall outside Community Radio Kilkenny with members of the community donating generously in person and via the GoFund Me Page.

Amongst them, a range of soccer teams in the Kilkenny & District League who took the opportunity to showcase their skills.

Evergreen described the initiative as a "fantastic endeavour", adding, "a wonderful cause that helps so many, His incredible target is €35,000 and he is almost there but needs that final push."

So far, €33,390 of a €35,000 target has been raised in aid of the Kilkenny charity with the full-time whistle on this year’s Kickathon set to be blown on Friday evening.

"If you're in a position to help somebody, the onus is on you to do something," Fran explained.

"It is a huge effort from the family," he added, hailing the Grincell's support in securing donations.

"How do I feel? I'm wrecked, I get tired but I have to do it because I owe it."

Asked what he enjoys most over the 12 night football marathon, Fran replied, "the people," crediting the public's financial and morale support.

"I love kicking ball, I'd kick a ball all day if I could," he concluded.
