February: All change for drivers and for Kilkenny’s new Seanad members

Review of the Year

Kilkenny was the place to be in February — not only did Thomastown’s Mount Juliet Estate host the annual meeting of the Inbound Tourism Operators Association of Ireland (ITOA) but the the Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) also held its spring seminar in the Kilford Arms Hotel.

A new ‘rural speed limit’ was introduced, reducing the 80kph limit to 60kph on ‘L’ roads and it was hoped this would improve road safety, although drivers were reminded of their responsibility to drive safely.

National politics again made headlines in the county as the month came to a close, with Kilkenny TD John McGuinness elected to the Leas-Cheann Comhairle position in Dáil Eireann.
