Kilkenny Person of the Year Awards 2016 - Pat Daly - Youth

Pat Daly is heavily involved in community work in Mooncoin.

He explains how as a parent he became active in the parents associations and boards of managements.

“I was always a great believer in getting involved and that is what the youth club in Mooncoin is all about,” he said.

Mr Daly explained that a grant was secured to develop the hall.

“Now it is a place to hang out for young and old and there is now drama and dance there. It is ten years up and running and we are very proud of it,” he said.

“It is a place where people go to meet and connect. There is a day care centre there and the Young at Heart (Seniors group) also met there.

“I want to accept this award on behalf of all the people involved in the centre and the great community work that happens there as a result of the work of local volunteers,” he added.

A Drugs Awareness Group also uses the centre where transition year students talk to first year students about the danger of drugs.

“There is great vision in Mooncoin and this illustrates it. We can all be very proud - there is a great team effort put in,” he added.
