Swim Success- The children from St.Michael’s NS., Danesfort had a fantastic and very successful day last Thursday at the annual schools swimming gala held at the Watershed with many of the pupils qualifying for the finals. Congratulations goes to Aisling Cowley who won gold in the Under-11 backstroke, Molly O’Keffe who won silver in under-11’s breaststroke and Joe Cowhig who won bronze under-10’s breaststroke.Well done to all who competed.
THANKS - A big thank you goes to all who baked cakes, buns etc for the Juvenile Camogie cake sale held in the Community Centre last Sunday morning. The event was a huge success and the funds will be used to purchase gear. A big thanks also to all those who worked and bought on the day. FUN RUN - “The Fun Starts Here” A good crowd attended the track at Danesfort GAA grounds to raise their fitness levels for the Fun Run that will be held later in the year. Remember this opportunity is open to everyone, even if you intend to walk. For a fee of €2 per session, Anne, Jane and Billy will provide advice to all.
HURLING - On Monday June 11 Danesfort Schools team took on Graignamanagh in the rionn C championship semi-final in Thomastown. This team who have already won a rionn B football Championship this season showed great heart and determination against a very fine Graigenamanagh side.The boys ,who were behind 1-2 to 0- 4 at half time battled hard to come back at the opposition, and booked their place in the county final against Lisdowney on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-4.
FINAL - On Saturday June 23 Danesfort Schools team, made up of children from Burnchurch, Churchill and Danesfort lined out for their Final Hurling match of the year against Lisdowney, in the Top Oil roinn c schools final. The match was played in Nowlan park. Danesfort started well with a three point lead however Lisdowney came back into the match with a goal and a point and lead by 1-0 to 0-4 at half time. Lisdowney had the wind in the second half and they stretched the lead. The last ten minutes were very intense with Danesfort scoring a goal leaving one point difference. The final score was Lisdowney 1-8 points to Danesfort 1-7. Everyone of the team deserve credit for a great years work as this team have also won the Roinn B Football Final, last November. UNDER -10 - Danesfort Under-10 boys took part in the Go Games in Nowlan Park recently. Both teams hurled very well with one of the teams winning their final. Congratulations and well done to all who took part.

TETRATHLON - Cian Drennan Burnchurch, a member of the Warrington Pony club was part of a 26 man squad who travelled to Milton Keynes England representing Ireland in the U.K. Regional Tetrathlon Championships on June 9th and 10th with England ,Scotland Wales and Border and Northern Ireland competing. Cian Drennan along with Leon Butler and Mark Collins Warrington, Rory Purcell Tipperary and Jack Savage Wicklow were on the boys team placed in second position. Mike Healy and Cian Drennan along with Laoise Fleming,Meath and Ellie Scott ,Bray represented Ireland in a relay swim which they won comfortably. Cian also was in fourth position in the swim and ninth position in the shoot overall. Training continues for the National Tetrathlon Championships which take place in Crecora Limerick in August .

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE -Anna Corr, Brigid Dillon and Denis Gorey, the organisers of the Danesfort Lourdes Pilgrimage would like to thank all those who supported their table quiz which was held in Shirley’s Kells. Three people were capable financially to travel on the Ossory Pilgrimage. Unfortunately one person was unable to travel so the money will be retained for next year. KARATE- The Karate Club meet on Tuesdays 4.00pm to 5.00pm in Danesfort Community Centre for boys and girls 4 to 12 year olds. . There will be a strong focus on physical fitness, with plenty of fun and games incorporated into the classes. Karate has many proven benefits for kids both physical and mentally. The Physical benefits include better movement and control, improved flexibility, increased fitness and the ability to protect oneself. YOGA - Yoga, with instructor Sadhbn O’Neill, will continue on Tuesday mornings at 10.00am during the summer months on a drop-in basis. For athletes and other sports people, yoga is a godsend and can help with specifics like fallen arches, joint problems, muscle strains and flexibility. With many people now taking up running, yoga will counteract many of the problems runners commonly encounter, including shortening of the muscles and tightness in the hip area. Runners often neglect their upper body and yoga will strengthen and tone muscles in every part of the body. Remember, yoga is for everyone: young, old, female, and yes, male also. If you have never practiced yoga, and would like to try it, just drop in any Tuesday. All you need are comfortable clothing, yoga mat, blanket and small pillow. TEEN CRAFTS - The first teen summer camp will be held this year in Danesfort Community Centre. It will offer a wide variety of activities and lots of fun. ALZHEIMERS - A facilitated support group, for carers of people with Alzheimers/Dementia. Providing a safe space for information exchange, emotional and practical support and the opportunity to network with other carers in similar positions.
