The morning of June 30 dawned and the Pilstock Committee were anxiously looking to the skies to see whether the weather was going to cooperate, and they were extremely lucky it was favourable apart from an odd brief shower.
The day proved to be an immense success, was thanks to the many bands, musicians and volunteers who gave up their time and this was highlighted in the amount of €10,626 that was raised. A number of events organised preceding the event aided the final amount raised.
One of the highlights of the day was the ‘The Voice of Piltown,’ which brought an array of talent to the judges in Anthony’s Inn. The ‘Voice of Piltown’ was won by Sasha from Belarus who sang a beautiful song in her native tongue.
Star judge and surprise guest of the day, Richie Hayes (who was runner-up in The Voice of Ireland’), commented on how he thought a CD had been switched on and how mesmerised he was by Sasha’s beautiful voice. Richie also said Sasha was of Eurovision quality!
There were bouncy castles, face painting, a wheel of fortune and many more activities. The 50 children from Belarus were fascinated as they tried out the range of activities and enjoyed themselves immensely. The organisers sincerely hope that they will have brought back many happy memories to Belarus.
Some of the bands and musicians who featured in the line-up were as follows: The Waxies, The DC, We The People, No Hot Ash, Caroline Boru, 20 Miles That Way and the Trad Musicians, performing until late, culminating in a great day and most significantly, all in aid of charity.
The Pilstock Committee would also like to sincerely thank all of the sponsors and volunteers, without whom the day would not have been possible. A special thanks to Anthony’s Inn for providing the venue, to Richie Hayes for opening Pilstock 2012 and also to Pat ‘Pilot’ Conway for being the prestigious MC on the day.
They’re looking forward to seeing you all at Pilstock 2013!
