Earlier this month, the Collier family from St Mullins were left devastated as their family home was destroyed by fire.

The blaze made its way through every room, taking with it memories, keepsakes and treasures the family had collected over 21 years in their home.

Thankfully, nobody was injured but the house was left uninhabitable.

Don and Geraldine Collier and their four teenage children now find themselves in a situation where they are left without a home and little more than the clothes they had on their backs.

As devastating as the loss of their home is, just days following the fire the family received the gut wrenching news that the insurance had lapsed, leaving them without recourse.

The six members of the family are now staying with relatives as they contemplate their next move.

Although the parish of St Mullins is small, the community spirit is mighty.

Locals are rallying together to do their utmost to raise funds to build this family a home once again.

Many ideas were discussed and deliberated before it was decided that a fundraising concert would be held on the 27th December in The Hub, Cillin Hill, Kilkenny.

A lot of work is going into this event and too many people to name have given up their time and resources to make this concert a success.

All bar staff, security, administrators, organisers, stage builders and advertisers are volunteers who truly care about rebuilding the house, so the family can return home.

Community is much more than belonging to something, it’s about doing something that makes belonging matter.

This is what the small community is doing here in St Mullins at the moment.

The Tumbling Paddies have been secured as the main act on the night. They are a young, talented and energetic six piece folk/trad band from Fermanagh.

They have taken the music scene by storm over the past few years.

The Tumbling Paddies entertained crowds daily at The National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska this year and with sold out shows countrywide, this is definitely a night not to be missed.
