Lt Col Seán Dunne presents Private Paul Crotty with the James Stephens Award

Private Paul Crotty has been presented with the James Stephens Award at the passing out Parade of the 168 Recruit Platoon at James Stephens Barracks in Kilkenny.

Crotty, of Ballyglasheen, Bansha, joined the Defence Forces in January 2022 and he received the James Stephens Award in recognition of his contribution to the Espirit de Corps of the 168 Recruit Platoon and the common spirit of camaraderie, enthusiasm and devotion to duty amongst the group.

The platoon consists of 38 recruits from 13 different counties, and ranging in ages from 18 to 25.

Private Crotty, who is 24 years of age, will be based in the Barracks in Limerick.

He was presented with the award by Lt Col Seán Dunne and the award citation says that “this recruit best espouses the Defence Forces values of respect, loyalty, selflessness, physical courage, moral courage and integrity”.

Private Crotty is son of Mark and Paula Crotty of Ballyglasheen.
