Kilkenny voice actor wins big in Hollywood awards night

Movie stars have the Oscars and the Emmys; voice actors have the Voice Arts Awards.

Just before Christmas, in Warner Bros Studios in Hollywood, California, Kilkenny man Mark Collins won a coveted Voice Arts statuette for his Outstanding Promo demo - Best Voiceover.

The star-studded gathering of the best of the best within the voice acting community came together at the world famous studios in Burbank for the Society Of Voice Arts and Science (SOVAS) ninth annual awards ceremony, hosted by Sovas Vice President Joan Baker and overseen by Sovas President and CEO Rudy Gaskins.

On the night over 100 statuettes were presented to voice actors, casting directors, narrators, audio engineers and voiceover talent in animation, video games, audiobooks, TV and radio commercials and promos, movie trailers, radio imaging and dubbing.

This award is Mark’s second nomination this year, he was also shortlisted at the One Voice Awards in London in May for his Video Game Reel - Best Performance - Male.

Mark Collins is a well known DJ and radio presenter for the past 30 years , but has only recently decided to turn his professional attention to voice acting. Having built a broadcast-quality home studio during the pandemic and lockdowns, he is now lending his voice and acting skills to multiple projects around the world, from animation and video games to TV commercials and promos.

Mark flew out to Los Angeles just before Christmas to attend the awards ceremony and collect the major international voice acting accolade. Other notable SOVAS Voice Arts Award recipients include: Jennifer Hale, James Earl Jones, Sigourney Weaver, Charlie Adler, Marc Graue, Debbe Hirata, Joe Cipriano, Owen Wilson, Fabian Torro, Stephane Cornicard, J.Michael Collins, Scott Brick, Lily Tomlin and Dave Fennoy.

While walking the red carpet, Mark thanked his Los Angeles agent Vanessa Gilbert (RSA Entertainment), also Chuck Duran and Stacey J Aswad of Demos That Rock and My VO Coach David Alden for all thier help and support in 2022.

Next year is also looking bright for the emerging voice actor and Kilkenny is well represented on the world stage in this creative medium, with the likes of Cartoon Saloon and Lighthouse Studios already paving the way.

Mark is represented by RSA Entertainment (Los Angeles), Stewart Talent (New York) and Duygu Basara (London and Istanbul).
