Do you think 'changing the clocks' should be a thing of the past?

Irish citizens are being given the chance to make their views known on the proposed abolition of the bi-annual clock-change.

This may come in next March if ratified by member-states across the E.U. - making the change from winter time to summer time, twice a year, a thing of the past.

It follows eventual agreement by the European Commission that the change should be made after many years of foot-dragging on their part.

A Public Consultation during the summer received 4.6 million responses, 84% of which wanted such a change.

Ireland South M.E.P. Sean Kelly was Ireland's only member of the Working Group on this project for several years. They had to overcome many bureaucratic hurdles to bring it to this point.

Mr. Kelly welcomed the fact that the Irish public will now be given their say on daylight savings. He has long been an advocate of such a change, citing compelling scientific evidence of its benefits.
