Keher featured in the victorious Kilkenny All-Ireland winning team of 1969

Six-time All-Ireland winner with Kilkenny Eddie Keher celebrated his 85th birthday earlier this week (October 14).

The Rower-Inistioge clubman still remains one of the most decorated inter-county players Kilkenny has produced and will be looking forward to his native club’s Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Intermediate County Final against James Stephens on Sunday in a repeat of the senior decider 50 years ago.

Born in Inistioge, County Kilkenny, Keher first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St Kieran's College. His first senior championship appearance was in the 1959 All-Ireland final replay against Waterford - he also played in a minor All-Ireland final, against Tipperary, that year.

Keher went on to play a key part for Kilkenny over several seasons, captaining the Cats to All-Ireland victory in 1969, while also winning ten Leinster medals and three National Hurling League medals during a glittering career.

The hurling icon was in Killarney this week to take part in a golfing event at the County Kerry course.
