A Mayor’s Reception has been held in Kilkenny’s City Hall for the recently-ordained Bishop of Ossory Niall Coll.

Bishop Coll hails from Letterkenny in Donegal. He was first ordained a priest on July 3, 1988, and bishop here in Kilkenny on January 22.

A man who has spent most of his ministry in the world of education, he also spent most of his life teaching and helping young people in the North and South of Ireland as well as in Rome.

After secondary school, a young Niall Coll began studying in Maynooth College. He spent six years there, studying an Arts degree first, before taking on a Theology degree. Then he studied in Rome, completed a H Dip in Trinity College and returned to Rome for a Doctorate.

Bishop Coll returned home to lecture in Carlow College before returning to Donegal, before his appointment this year.
