A short ceremony took place at Kilkenny’s Great War memorial in the Peace Park to remember those from Kilkenny who died in the Battle of the Somme.
There were 126 people who died in the battle, which took place on July 1 107 years ago. The ceremony consisted of prayer, poetry and reflections, wreath laying ceremony.
The national flag was raised, and musicians played the Last Post and Reveille and the national anthem. The Cathaoirleach and Mayor of Kilkenny attended.
The event was organised by the Kilkenny Great War Memorial Committee.
