Kilkenny celebrated another milestone as the city marked its 400th parkrun with a party!
The Castle Park has been long associated with the parkrun - a weekly fun, free and friendly 5km - but Saturday morning saw a bumper crowd turn out as the event hit the latest century.
Not even the weather could dampen the spirits of the large field as 220 people ran, jogged and walked the 5km course. They were sent on their way by Martin Brett, Deputy Mayor of Kilkenny, who congratulated the organisers and runners on their feat.-1708518498444.jpg)
After completing the three laps the finish line was awash with treats which were waiting as a reward.
The parkrun has come a long way since it was first held in October 2014. In that time thousands of people from all over the world have flocked to the Park to take part in the event - Saturday’s parkrun had participants from Scotland and France - while also attracting a core group who make it part of their weekly schedule.
Many milestones have been reached over the years including at the weekend, when Michael Molloy, Helen Bacon and Shane Egan racked up their 250th, 150th and 50th parkruns respectively.
The parkrun is a free weekly community event open to all runners, walkers and joggers. People can sign up by registering online at parkrun.ie for their barcode. The run is held at 9.30am every Saturday.
