THE new Government Press Secretary will be a Kilkenny man, Fergal Purcell. The former army officer has been working with the Fine Gael party as deputy head of PR since he retired from the army. The 38-year-old was seen by many as playing a huge part in the party’s success at the general election and he has a very close working relationship with the new Taoiseach, Enda Kenny. Originally from Ballycallan, a son of Eddie Purcell and the late Helen Purcell, originally from West Kerry, Fergal got married last year and is now living in Dublin but is a frequent visitor to his native city. He was low-key about his appointment and said that he was behind the scenes and preferred if the headlines were grabbed by the politicians.
