Fianna Fáil's John Coonan shared his thoughts with Kilkenny People (Kilkenny Live) Editor Sam Matthews after the voting tallies were announced for Kilkenny City LEA.
It will likely be after quite a few counts, but Coonan will be hopeful that transfers will carry him over to the fifth seat.
"I'm hoping against hope that I'll get the result," he said.
