Labour's Sean O'hArgain is back in local politics after a decade away. After missing out on a seat in 2014, he did not contest the 2019 Local Elections, but he has now returned to politics and will take his seat in the council chamber as one of two Labour Party representatives elected. To win back a seat in the late Seamus Pattison's old stronghold will mean a lot to him and his party.
"The last ten years have been difficult, the local elections in 2014 when the city was split was very difficult when the city was split in two in what I thought was a poor move and for the Labour Party, not just myself it's been very difficult for the first time in the history of the state not to have an authority representative in Kilkenny City but now we're back thankfully," Mr OhArgain said.
