The sign in the window of Goods of Kilkenny on High Street

A 'store closing' sign has appeared on a well-known shop in Kilkenny's city centre this week.

The sign, which reads 'STORE CLOSING - EVERYTHING MUST GO' has appeared in the window of family-owned store, Goods of Kilkenny, on High Street. Goods, a ladies' fashion retailer with over four floors, was founded in 1927 by William Henry Good, who first opened a small shoe shop at 90 High Street. Later the store grew and expanded to include clothing and linens.

Close to a century in business, outside today, passersby and shoppers stopped to discuss the sign.

Right across the road is a recently-sold unit - the former Woolen Halls - currently vacant. Earlier this month, EuroGiant closed its doors, right beside another unit which has been vacant for a number of months.

Just around the corner, Rossiter's in the Butter Slip closed at the end of last year, while neighbouring stores Sally West and Breda's Gift Shop on Kieran Street shut their doors after Christmas also.
