The late John Mackey from Callan, Co Kilkenny
The family of a Kilkenny man who was fatally injured after being attacked while walking to his north London home have said they were in 'utter shock' after receiving the devastating news.
John Mackey (87) died in hospital two days after the incident as he walked home from the shops. He had gone out to get the newspaper and buy some groceries but was left with multiple injuries, including broken ribs and a bleed to his brain with a man subsequently charged in relation to the fatal incident.
Investigating police said Mr Mackey was an innocent member of the public and was walking back home after running errands when he was made a victim.

Originally from Mellowes Park in Callan, John moved to London in the 1950s but remained a proud Irishman all his life. One of 11 children, Mr Mackey was the adored uncle of 21 nieces and nephews. He was also a lifelong Arsenal supporter.
"It was utter shock it could happen to him," his niece Margaret Kelly told RTE News.
"We're all still in shock because uncle John was a constant, he was always just there. We knew if we went to London we would always nip on the tube up to Archway to see him," she added.
