Long-awaited funding for improvements to a Kilkenny town's flood defences has been announced today (Thursday).

The Office of Public Works (OPW) has announced the approval of Kilkenny County Council’s application for funding under the Office of Public Works’ Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme. 

Under the scheme, the OPW has approved additional funding of €27,245 for planned works at Callan, Co. Kilkenny which include the supply and installation of a new pumping facility at the KCAT carpark, decommissioning of the existing pump and the construction of a 900mm overflow pipe and ancillary works.

Additional works include the installation of a chamber at Bridge Street and the provision of Individual Property Protection (IPP) for eight properties.

This brings the total funding to date to €151,785.
