The King's River in Callan is in flood
Torrential overnight rain has caused flooding in many parts of Kilkenny this morning (Wednesday) affecting business and travel.
In Callan the KCAT arts centre has announced that it will remain closed for the day because of local flooding. The King's River has burst its banks into the flood plains of the Moate Field (pictured above) and the Abbey Meadow (pictured below).

Posting on social media, earlier this morning, KCAT announced it will remain closed for today as its car park and Keogh's Lane, the two approaches to the centre, are flooded. The centre posted that its building remains safe: "The KCAT building is not affected, but as a safety precaution we will be closed."
Bridge Street has not been flooded and remains open to traffic, however barriers have been erected to prevent pedestrians walking in the Abbey Meadow.
Flooding occurred in Freshford last night, while the rivers in Thomastown and Kilkenny City are at a very high level.
This follows a day and night of heavy rain, with many counties, including Kilkenny, subject to a Yellow Rain Warning from Met Eireann.
