The first wisps of autumn are in the air and while we may miss the heat of summer, the new season heralds its own enjoyable traditions – including the first apple pressing of the year.

This Saturday will see an event that gently combines the end of the record-breaking summer with the start of autumn.

The annual end-of-summer plant sale at Living and Growing in Westcourt, Callan, is taking place this weekend, and promises to help you recover your garden from the summer drought at the same time as it welcomes you to bring along your first fruits crops.

Now is the time to start planning for an impressive Spring garden. Perennials available at the sale will be perfect for planting now and producing healthy plants next year.

As well as perennials, there will be a range of vegetable and herb plants for sale on the day.

All the equipment for apple pressing will be on hand. All you have to do is bring along your own apples and empty containers then you can bring home your fresh apple juice.

The day will also include entertainment from local musicians and there will be local crafts on sale too.

Relax in the garden with coffee and home bakes, which will also be on sale.

There are currently a number of allotment plots available for rent in the Westcourt Walled Garden. If you are interested contact [email protected].

The Plant Sale and Apple Pressing event takes place from 11am to 4pm at Westcourt Walled Garden, Callan, R95YK5Y.
