Cois Nore’s ‘Kilkenny to Kilkenny’ fundraiser is gathering pace with a walking event coming to the Discovery Park, Castlecomer this Sunday morning.

A 5K Fun Walk/Run fundraiser and celebration of the first anniversary of the Cois Nore weekly Outreach service in Castlecomer is being held on Sunday, August 3 in the Castlecomer Discovery Park at 9.30am with registration at 8.45am.

The Sunday morning event is anticipated to be well attended by people from the Castlecomer community and surrounding areas. The event will bring people of all ages together to help Cois Nore’s Canice the Cat mascot to move a little further in his virtual journey across the Atlantic to Kilkenny Minnesota in the USA.

“We expect a great atmosphere as families gather to support Cois Nore’s ‘Kilkenny to Kilkenny’ fundraising initiative’ and to celebrate the first anniversary of Cois Nores presence in Castlecomer through its outreach service,” says Cois Nore Outreach worker Aileen McInerney.

“We really appreciate the support of the Discovery Park and the Kilkenny Lions Club’ in organising this event,” said Sheila Murphy, Cois Nore.

"The Kilkenny to Kilkenny fundraiser is a virtual walk by Canice the Cat from Kilkenny Ireland to Kilkenny, Minnesota. His progress can be tracked online through our website. He is well on his way but still needs help to complete his journey. We are delighted that groups, clubs and individuals have come forward to plan events like this. Any activity that can cover 5km or more is acceptable. People can simply sign up on our website coisnore.ie or give us a call for more information. We have been supported by people doing everything from walking and cycling to rowing."
