Two brothers who were involved in a series of incidents on Christmas Night in Paulstown appeared at Kilkenny District Court via videolink yesterday (Tuesday).
Colin Murphy and Glen Murphy, both with an address at Kyleshal, Raheendoran, Co Carlow, were charged with two counts of assault causing harm contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Persons Act, 1997, on December 25 last at Ballygurteen, Paulstown, Co. Kilkenny.
Both men are also accused of criminal damage at Ballygurteen on the same date. Colin Murphy is also charged with the unauthorising taking of a vehicle at Clogrennane, Co Carlow on December 22.
Colin Murphy is also accused of production of an article contrary to section 11 of The Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act at Ballygurteen, Paulstown on December 25 and of the unauthorised taking of a MPV at Baunreagh, O’Leighlin, Co Carlow on December 25.
Solicitor Michael Lanigan said that his client is currently on remand and that there was consent to a four week remand.
“I understand that directions are being sought from the DPP. There is a multiplicity of charges.
Judge Geraldine Carthy remanded the defendant in custody to appear via videolink at Kilkenny District Court on January 23.
Glen Murphy also appeared via videolink charged in connection with the incident. He is accused of two counts of assault causing harm and three counts of criminal damage at Ballygurteen, Paulstown on December 25. He is also accused of the unauthorised taking of a MPV at Crosneen, Co Carlow on December 22, 2022 and at Baunreagh, O’Leighlin, Co Carlow on December 25, 2022.
Mr Lanigan told the court that his client was consenting to the matter going back to January 23. Judge Carthy remanded both defendants in custody to appear via videolink before Kilkenny District Court on January 23 for DPP’s directions.
Bail was applied for and refused at Gorey District Court on December 28.
