The black bag found by the side of the playing pitch

There is widespread revulsion in a Kilkenny community this morning after a bag of dead puppies was reportedly dumped by the side of a busy local sports pitch.

Coaches at Newpark AFC say they were stunned to make the grim discovery yesterday evening, as a young girls' soccer team trained on the pitch. They noticed a black sack with an overpowering stench close left at the corner flag of the pitchside.

The adults tried to prevent the youngsters from stumbling upon the gruesome find by moving the bag away. Gardaí and the ISPCA were contacted and made aware of the incident.

There is considerable anger - and shock - in the local community that someone would so callously discard the unfortunate little pups in this manner, however they met their sad demise.

In recent days, the club has been highlighting an ongoing battle against dog fouling on the popular local sportsground.
