BREAKING: Sentencing of Kilkenny's DJ Carey put on hold as former hurler in hospital

Sentencing hearing: Former Kilkenny hurler has pleaded guilty to 10 counts of fraud

The sentencing hearing of Kilkenny hurling legend DJ Carey, which was due to take place today, has been postponed.

A medical certificate has been handed in to the court attesting that Mr Carey is in hospital in Galway and unfit to attend the hearing. The case has been put back pending further details.

Mr Carey pleaded guilty to 10 counts of fraud, including falsely claiming to have cancer to obtain money from people, at a court sitting last July. The Kilkenny man, who won Hurler of the Year twice, nine All Stars, 34 championship goals, was due to learn his fate at the courts of justice today.
