Kilkenny’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU) has made three drug-driving arrests over the past two nights, with gardaí warning that everyday traffic stops can quickly become far more serious.
Two of the arrests followed what gardaí described as relatively minor offence traffic stops, while the third came after a driver failed a test at a mandatory intoxicant checkpoint.

In each case, a roadside drug test was carried out and the drivers were arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
Three samples have since been sent to the Medical Bureau of Road Safety (MBRS) for analysis.

Gardaí in Kilkenny say the results of the MBRS testing will ultimately determine the next steps in each investigation.
All three drivers are now waiting on the outcome and gardaí noted that each driver is concerned about what any potential conviction could mean for their livelihood.
