Three men who appeared in court charged with robbery and assault in Kilkenny City had their case adjourned at a recent sitting of Kilkenny District Court.

Hamza Alladadweh, Kilkenny Inn, Vicar Street, Kilkenny is accused of robbery contrary to section 14 of The Theft and Fraud Offences Act at the Peace Park in Kilkenny on December 30, 2025 and of assault causing harm contrary to section 3 of The Non Fatal Offence Against the Person Act on the same date at Wolfe Tone Street, Kilkenny.

Two co-accused, Feras Issa, Dekend House, Coffee House Lane, The Quay, Waterford and Qais Issa of no fixed abode are both also accused of robbery and assault causing harm at the same location on the same date. The three men appeared in person before the court.

Sergeant  Morgan O’Connor told the court that the allegation involves the three defendants, who are Jordanian nationals and were living in an IPAS centre in Kilkenny. The alleged injured party, who was also living at the IPAS centre in Kilkenny City and is from the United Arab Emirates was ‘not happy with the conduct of the defendants’ who were smoking in the vicinity of the centre.

It is alleged that two of the three defendant were moved to an IPAS centre in Waterford and that they ‘were not happy about it’.

On the date in question the two men had returned to Kilkenny and were socialising with the third defendant when they ‘happened upon’ the alleged injured party in the handball alley. It is alleged that the three men ‘set upon’ the injured party.

Sgt O’Connor told the court that it is alleged that while there were no serious injuries sustained by the injured party, it is alleged that there was some bruising caused as a result of the assault.

The sergeant told the court that it is further alleged that the three defendants tried to take the injured party’s phone and that they were subsequently arreted and detained.

Sgt O’Connor outlined to the court that the DPP’s direction was that the matter was to be dealt with summarily on a plea of guilty only.

Solicitor Alexander Rafter told the court that he had received ‘firm instructions’ from his clients, who he said wished to contest the matters that were before the court. Judge Geraldine Carthy remanded the three men on continuing bail to  Kilkenny District Court to May 19 for a plea or to certify for counsel and an interpreter.
