Councillor Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere has said there has been a huge increase in bogus calls in Co Kilkenny in recent weeks.
“I have received numerous requests, in particular from older and vulnerable people, who are genuinely very worried and in some instances receiving up to 10 bogus calls a day!” he said. “I would encourage people not to put themselves under undue stress by feeling they must answer a call. If you don’t recognise a number then don’t answer it,” Cllr Cleere said.
“Please don’t, under any circumstances, engage with these callers, do not return their calls to these numbers and most importantly please do not share any personal information such as your PPS number or bank details with these callers. Gardai have been made aware of these scam calls.”
