A WOMAN has been convicted of drink driving following a collision between vehicles in a Kilkenny city supermarket car park.

Mary Corcoran, 12 Cedarwood Park, Loughboy, Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Sergeant Morgan O’Connor told the court that on November 18, 2025, gardaí were called to a traffic collision in the car park of Lidl on the Waterford Road, Kilkenny.

Gardaí went to the scene and observed a car parked half way across two spaces. They spoke to Ms Corcoran, who was the driver of one of the vehicles involved.

The gardaí became suspicious that Ms Corcoran had consumed alcohol and she was breathalised. A reading of 231mgs of alcohol per 100mls of breath was recorded.

Solicitor Alex Rafter apologised on his client’s behalf. He said Ms Corcoran is 62 and had never been in court before. It had been a tough year for her, he said.

Ms Corcoran had always had a good relationship with alcohol until this year.

On this occasion she had travelled 800 metres from her home to the shop, to buy wine.

Judge Geraldine Carthy took into consideration the guilty plea and mitigation.

Ms Corcoran was convicted and a fine of €300 imposed. She was also disqualified from driving for three years.
