Tributes have poured in following the death of Dublin-based Kilkenny woman Gillian Cantwell after her long battle with illness.
The Kilkenny native had lived in Howth for some time after moving from her family home in Leggettsrath. Gillian passed away peacefully this week, surrounded by her loving family.
Gillian was the beloved daughter of Mary and Oliver., and sadly missed by all her family and her many friends at Bartra Nursing Home.
In a touching tribute, Prosper Fingal, a Dublin-based group providing services and supports to adults with an intellectual disability, shared the news of Gillian's death "with great sadness".
In a post on Facebook, the group said: "For many years, Gillian was supported by our Portmarnock Service. She was such a kind, caring lady who smiled so easily. Clever, creative and always thoughtful for those around her. Gillian will be greatly missed, especially by her loving mother Mary who dedicated her life to Gillian and her care. Goodbye Gillian from all in Prosper."
Many condolences were left on GIllian's death notice, with one describing her as having "a heart of pure gold".
"I am so deeply thankful for the care and friendship that Gillian, and you, Mary, have extended to me over the years. Wishing you, and all who loved her, peace and comfort in the coming days. Holding you close to my heart and thoughts," the tribute read.
Another wrote that they were "so grateful" to have been Gillian’s friend in life, and said they "will continue to be her friend in death, honouring her in all I do".
"I grieve for the bond and trust that Gillian and I shared and that of what we didn't get to share yet, since her passing too soon, my dear friend Gillian," the condolence read.
Gillian will Repose at Stafford's Funeral Home in Portmarnock, Dublin today from 3pm to 5 pm.
Her removal will take place on Wednesday the 21st of August to the Church of the Assumption, Howth, Co Dublin for 10am Funeral Mass which will be livestreamed, followed by burial in St Fintans Cemetery, Sutton.
