No / No - Carlow Kilkenny rejects Family referendum by 70%

Kilkenny referendum count

The official result of the referendum on Family has been declared. The Carlow Kilkenny constituency has overwhelmingly rejected  both proposals.

With a turnout of almost 43% the constituency no vote seems to have been expressed equally across rural and urban voters, according to early tallies at the Lyrath Convention Centre.

In the last few minutes the official result from the Carlow Kilkenny constituency has been declared: the no vote was almost two and a half times the yes vote. No: 70.7%, Yes: 29.3%

The total electorate was 117,528. The number of votes cast was 50,176. With 630 spoiled votes the total valid poll was 49,546.

There were 194 boxes to open this morning, with 73 from Carlow polling stations and 121 from Kilkenny polling stations.

The first task for the count centre staff was to sort the ballots into the white and green piles, the two separate referendum questions.
