Final count: No votes over 70% in Family and Care referendums from Kilkenny voters

The official result of the referenda on Family and Care have been declared. The Carlow Kilkenny constituency has overwhelmingly rejected  both proposals.

With a turnout of almost 43% the constituency no vote seems to have been expressed equally across rural and urban voters, according to early tallies at the Lyrath Convention Centre. 

Family 

The official result from the Carlow Kilkenny constituency has been declared: the no vote was almost two and a half times the yes vote. No: 70.7% (35,028), Yes: 29.3% (14,518).

The total electorate was 117,528. The number of votes cast was 50,176. With 630 spoiled votes the total valid poll was 49,546.

Care

An even higher no vote was recorded in the 40 Amendment referendum. No: 35,735 or 72.2%, Yes: 13,768 or 27.8%.

There were 194 boxes to open this morning, with 73 from Carlow polling stations and 121 from Kilkenny polling stations.
