Discussions 'going on' over major UPMC Nowlan Park concert in Kilkenny

Discussions are taking place behind the scenes about possibly bringing a major concert back to UPMC Nowlan Park, according to Kilkenny County Council Cathaoirleach Joe Malone
Discussions are ongoing behind the scenes about the prospect of a major concert returning to UPMC Nowlan Park, Kilkenny County Council Cathaoirleach Joe Malone has revealed.
Speaking during an in-depth interview with the Kilkenny People, Cllr Malone said he would "love to see it happen" and believes Kilkenny has the infrastructure to host another large-scale music event.
"Discussions are going on behind the scenes, and I'd love to see it happen," he said.
"We have the roads, the accommodation and all the infrastructure needed. It wouldn't just be a Kilkenny event, it would be something for the whole South-East."
Malone said a multi-day concert would provide a significant boost for the local economy.
"A three-day concert would give a huge boost to businesses, hotels, restaurants and tourism," he said.
UPMC Nowlan Park most recently hosted Bruce Springsteen in May 2024, following previous concerts by Shania Twain and Rod Stewart, events which Malone said helped establish Kilkenny as a destination for major live music.
