Negotiations have now been finalised for the establishment of three industries in Kilkenny - two of them will be in Callan and the third at Ballygriffin near Kilmacow.
In addition, members of the local Development Association in Graignamanagh are hopeful that an industry will be set up in their town.
It was learned this week that an American company has bought 18 acres at Ballygriffin, Kilmacow, while two industries both associated with the production of components for farm buildings are scheduled for the Callan area.
Meanwhile the Kilkenny Boot Factory is extending the volume of its employment; 30 trainee operatives are to be recruited in Abbeyleix.
A bungalow and out offices, in addition to the 18 acres, have been bought from Mr William Dwyer at Ballygriffin.
The site is ideally situated with port facilities available on the River Suir close by and it is not far from the main road at Grannagh.
The establishment of a factory will add considerably to the employment already available in the Grannagh Board and Paper Mills, which gives work to over 400. The additional industry will be welcomed in the area.
In Callan negotiations have been in progress for some weeks and agreement has been reached for the purpose of land from the Callan and District Development Association for two new industries.
The site is at Castletobin, about half a mile on the Kilkenny side of Callan. It is part of the Pollard estate divided by the Land Commission about two years ago when eight acres were allotted to the Development Association.
Messrs Heron brothers, Minauns, the sawmills proprietors, who have been engaged in the timber and joinery business for years, have bought three acres and will manufacture prefab farm out office buildings under licence in a new factory.
Cullen Brothers, Bennettsbridge, have taken one and a quarter acres. They will manufacture steel components for haybarns and silos.
Between the two industries it is expected that employment will be provided for about 40.
