Kilkenny animation helps bring 'moment of joy' to children in Gaza

Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon’s Puffin Rock brings joy to children in Gaza during special event organised by Animation Community for Palestine
A little bit of joy can go a long way, especially for children living through unimaginable hardship
Some Kilkenny magic has helped bring smiles to the faces of children living in Gaza, thanks to a special screening of Puffin Rock, from Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon.
The event offered children a chance to escape the difficulties of everyday life with a day filled with laughter and was brought to life thanks to a dedicated team, including award-winning animation director and mentor Haneen Koraz from Gaza; Palestinian animator, art instructor and creative leader, Shorook Darwish; and animator and educator, Nour A-Jawad.
Global Peace Ambassador Ebrahim Koraz and Shauna Cullen of JAM Media, who works with children in refugee camps in Gaza, were also instrumental in making the special day possible.
For a few precious hours, children enjoyed fun-filled activities, face painting, sweet treats and screenings of Irish animation, as a little bit of light relief from the hardships that surround them.
Reflecting on the occasion, Animation Community for Palestine, who organised the event said that "these children had a day were they could just be kids for a while."
"It doesn't change what is happening in Gaza. We know that. But watching these videos it is clear to see there are whole universes in each little body, full of magic and gorgeous personalities.
"The Palestinian people are among the bravest people on this earth, but they shouldn't have to be. The children deserve to grow up safe and play without fear and have a bright future to look forward to. I hope people watch this and see the children for who they are - full of life who deserve the same things every child on this earth deserves."

Adding a personal touch to the occasion was a special video message recorded for the children by Palestinian Ambassador to Ireland, Dr Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid, who informed them that they are "in the hearts of everyone in Ireland."
Also sharing a few words via video was former President of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson.
The event offered the children a precious chance to laugh, play and experience a little childhood joy, with a helping hand from the work of the talented creative community based right here in Kilkenny.
